Instead of being located in a single room and having to escape from it, students will embark on a linear escape adventure, and escape from three specific locations.
Learning outcomes:
To teach students of Republic Polytechnic the severity the threats fake news pose and why cyber security is important.
Background information and game objectives:
The hacker, Krimson Knight, has released a potent computer virus – known as “Siliao-X” – that has caused blackouts, interfered with online systems and corrupted the social media platforms all around the world.
Players have to collect information and find items (e.g., a smartphone) to be able to solve a series of riddles. Ultimately, to win, students have to work together with their peers to defeat Krimson Knight and neutralise viruses on electronic devices.
The game is set in three different locations around Singapore: the MRT system, Merlion Park at Marina Bay, and, of course, the Polytechnic grounds.
Let’s take a closer look at how the game works:
Krimson Knight Hacker Escape
The release of Siliao-X in Singapore
It’s the year 2023 in Singapore and the hacker, Krimson Knight, has introduced Siliao-X to the island state. Siliao-X is a computer virus, an insidious trojan worm, that aims to seize the world’s electronic device system via the internet and was declared by the hacker to be “the world’s greatest hack”.
It’s reported that Siliao-X has defeated Australia and the United States and now has arrived in Singapore – disrupting power systems, affecting utility systems and turning off traffic lights. What’s particularly frightening is that Siliao-X is also spreading fake news via social media; people are no longer able to determine what is real and what is fake, they don’t know who to trust anymore, and chaos is ensuing.
